Premise and World Concept

The World of Canthany

For a long time, the world of Canthany has been in the back of my mind, waiting to come out and play. It was intended to be the center of a space-faring empire which spanned most of our galaxy. There were alien races, many worlds to discover (ala Star Trek), and a group of individuals which protected these new worlds for thousands of years. They were the Canthyanic Order of Psionicists (think Jedi or even the Green Lantern Corp). All of this was years ago before I turned to the Lord.

Now, Canthany is still home to a space-faring civilization, but it doesn’t span our galaxy, only a small part of it. I decided to root their existence on a single premise: what if animals ate of the Tree of Knowledge or Good and Evil from Genesis? This led to question after question.

What would happen to them? Okay, they are sent to another world to live…Canthany. Why? Well, they aren’t here now, so they must be someplace else.

Are they bipedal? Yes. Genesis talks about how the serpent was cursed to crawl on the ground on its belly. Conceivably, animals were bipedal originally and when God cursed the serpent, the rest followed suit, except those sent to Canthany.

How many races? All? No. I’m going to go with seven races are sent. Cats, Dogs and Reptiles are three for sure. I did have four others in mind but decided to let that go for now. When my readership reaches a certain point, I’ll start polling people to see what they think about the other four races. Fun, right? You get to shape this new world.

Does the Devil know about them? Yes, but he is prevented from tempting them for a time. How long? TBD

Would they progress like humans? No. Let’s speed up the process and not have them go through a Flood, or the Dark Ages. They become a space-faring race in search of Eden.

Would humans be sent to their world? Yes. When the Flood happens on Earth, the Devil transports some of the giants to sister worlds in the Canthyanic system. Maybe other, normal sized humans, show up after the Tower of Babel incident.

All sorts of questions continue to arise in my head about Canthany and how to develop this new world. I’ll eventually get to them and document them on the site.

One more tidbit and this is about my LLC name, Traveller’s Emporium. There is significance to this name. The Canthany world will have a legend known as The Traveller (yes, I spelled it “correctly” using the British version). This being shows up from time to time throughout Canthany’s history. He or she was there from the beginning and nobody knows (well, except me) where this person came from.

One thing about this entity, he or she has a business called Traveller’s Emporium in the main city (don’t have the name yet) on Canthany. Not only is it the most well-stocked business known, but it has also become a hub for adventurers, thrill seekers, knowledge seekers and merchants. Many stories will develop around the Emporium as the centerpiece of the lore of Canthany…
